Affected Products:

Dell Data Protection | Security Tools
Dell Data Protection | Encryption

Affected Platforms:

Windows 10

Updates to Windows 10 may result in loss of functionality for Fingerprint Readers on any laptop running Dell Data Protection.

This has been resolved with the 8.9.1/1.9.1/1.0.1 release.

Microsoft has introduced a new service, called WinBio, that manages Biometrics on any device. This fix will allow us to sync biometric credentials into this service to ensure proper functionality.

Once this version is in place, if we experience another upgrade, we will have to reboot twice before functionality will return.

As of 8.16

Advanced Authentication options display only under the following conditions:

  • When upgrading to v8.16 with the PBA inactive, Advanced Authentication options display at the Windows login screen upon the first reboot after installation of v8.16. After the next reboot, Advanced Authentication options display only if PBA is activated.
  • When upgrading to v8.16 with the PBA active, Advanced Authentication options display at the Windows login screen upon the first reboot after installation of 8.16.
  • After a clean install of v8.16, Advanced Authentication login options will not display until the PBA is activated.
