A Dell PowerEdge™ server with Intel Nehalem™ processors may experience CPU IER errors using ESXi 4.0.0.


Update to the latest iDRAC firmware.

Additional Information:

Systems with Nehalem CPUs have been reported to log CPU IERR alerts in vCenter 4.0 console. The alerts indicate that a problem has been encountered with the CPU. The message will ether display a "CPUierr" or "Processor State Alert". This problem has only been seen with Hosts that have ESXi 4.0 installed. An additional message gets logged in the System log, "BMC incorrect response". This can be viewed from the the HOST .

Neither the iDRAC or CMC log these messages and are considered false messages.

No not send any hardware, this is a false alert message that has no functional effect on the operating system. This message can cause an alert to be generated if traps are configured for CPU events.
