Dell Computer Restarts Automatically after Disconnecting or Replacing the RTC or CMOS Battery

Symptom

Dell desktops and laptops may restart 2 to 3 times after the RTC or CMOS battery is either replaced or removed and reinstalled.

Solution

This is a normal behavior when the RTC or CMOS battery is removed and reinstalled on the motherboard. When the RTC or CMOS battery is removed, the time, date and other settings in the BIOS needs to be reset before the computer starts to boot normally.
