How to Remove Toolbars from your Internet Browser

This article provides information on how to remove unwanted toolbars from your Internet browser.


1. Internet Explorer

Disable toolbars:

  • Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the window. (Tools > Add-Ons or Tools > Manage Add-ons in older versions of IE)


  • Select Manage Add-ons from the menu. In the Add-on Types menu on the left, select "Toolbars and Extensions"


  • In the main section of the window, select the toolbar you want to disable.
  • Click the Disable button in the bottom-right corner.

Uninstall Toolbars:

  • Start > Control Panel (or Windows key + X in Windows 8)
  • select Programs & Features (Add/Remove Program in Windows XP)


  • Find the 'Toolbar' in the list of programs. Select it and choose Uninstall/Remove option.

2. Firefox

Uninstall Toolbar:

  • Start > Control Panel (or Windows key + X in Windows 8)
  • select Programs & Features (Add/Remove Program in Windows XP)


  • Find the 'Toolbar ' in the list of programs. Select it and choose Uninstall/Remove option.

Remove from Add-ons:

  • Alternative option is to disable the Toolbar in the Add-ons section within Firefox.
  • From menu bar Tools > Add-ons (Ctrl-Shift + A)



  • Extensions section > select the toolbar to disable/remove, click the disable/remove button.



  • Restart Firefox browser

3. Google Chrome

Uninstall Toolbar:

  • Start > Control Panel (or Windows key + X in Windows 8)
  • select Programs & Features (Add/Remove Program in Windows XP)


  • Find the 'Toolbar ' in the list of programs. Select it and choose Uninstall/Remove option.


Remove from Chrome menu:

  • Click the menu button on the top right of browser. (Icon is 3 horizontal bars)

  • Select Tools > Extensions
  • Select the toolbar to remove/disable from the list.
  • Confirm the removal 'Yes'

4. Safari

Remove from Extensions Manager:

  • Click Safari and then select Preferences. Click on the Extensions tab.
  • Select the Toolbar you would like to remove/disable.
  • Restart Safari.


    Additional file removal: If the toolbar is still loading check the locations below for any remains of the installation.
    • /Library/LaunchAgents/
    • /Library/LaunchDaemons/
    • /Library/StartupItems/
    • /Library/InputManagers/
    • HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    • HD/Library/Input Methods/
    • HD/Library/InputManagers/
    • HD/Library/ScriptingAdditions
