Overheating, Fan Noise, Freezing, Blue Screens, Slow or Lagging Performance with the G3 (3579/3779/3500), G5 (5587/5590/5500/5505), G7 (7588/7590/7790/7500/7700), and the Vostro 7580



Freezing, Blue Screens, Slow or Lagging Performance, Overheating with Fan Noise

While gaming, playing a video or surfing the Internet your system may start to perform abnormally. For example, slow or lagging performance, freezing, blue screens or it feels like its overheating. When one of these symptoms happens, you may also notice some fan noise.

In these situations, the system is working as designed and this is due to high usage. To resolve these issues, we recommend that you download the latest BIOS from the Dell Support site (Links below for each model).

After updating your BIOS, we recommend that you install the Dell Power Manager (DPM) application. The new Dell Power Manager features allow you to access the Thermal Management option to adjust thermal settings based on your requirements (Figure 1).

Note: To enable this feature, you must install 3 main files.
  1. The latest System BIOS.
  2. The Dell Power Manager Service.
  3. The Dell Power Manager Application.
If any of the above files are skipped or missed, Dell Power Manager may not function as designed.

Steps to Install Dell Power Manager:

  1. Download the latest BIOS from the Dell Support site: BIOS links above
  2. Download the latest version of Dell Power Manager Service from the Dell Support Site (Figure 2): Dell Power Manager Service

  3. Download the latest version of the Dell Power Manager application from the Windows Store External Link (Figure 3).
