These guides will take you step by step through the safe removal of what are considered to be the Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) parts of a OptiPlex 760 Ultra Small Form Factor (USFF) chassis. (CRUs are the parts of the system that shouldn't need an engineer to remove or replace.)

Removal Instructions

1 Small Phillip's head screwdriver 2 Plastic Scribe
3 Small Flat head screwdriver

  1. Pre-Removal Instructions Before removing the System Cover :

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware always ensure all data is backed up properly

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets

  2. Establishing image.

Cover

  1. Rotate the cover release knob in a clockwise direction and slide the system cover towards the front of the system.

  1. Lift the cover up and remove from the chassis.

  1. Complete.

  1. Pre-Removal Instructions Before removing the Module Bay Drive :

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware always ensure all data is backed up properly

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets

    4. Remove the System Cover.

  2. Establishing image.

Optical Drive

  1. Squeeze the module locking switch to release the module from its bay.

Optical Drive2

  1. Pull up on the locking switch to move it to an unlocked position.

  2. Press the drive release latch and pull on the tab that pops out to remove the module from the system.

Optical Drive3

Note: Check for a security screw in the base of the unit if the drive does not pull out at this point. If you see one, remove it and try again.
  1. Complete.

Optical Drive4

  1. Pre-Removal Instructions Before rotating the Dell Badge :

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware always ensure all data is backed up properly

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets

    4. Remove the System Cover.

  2. Establishing image.

Badge

  1. Pull the position tab away from the front of the system.

  1. Rotate the position tab clockwise until it stops.

  1. Pre-Removal Instructions Before removing the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) :

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware always ensure all data is backed up properly

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets

    4. Remove the System Cover.

  2. Establishing image.

HDD

  1. Disconnect the power and data cables from the hard drive.

  1. Press the two blue tabs on either side of the hard drive in towards each other.

  1. Slide the drive towards the front of the system.

HDD4

  1. Lift up and remove the hard drive assembly from the bracket.

  1. Complete.

HDD6

  1. Pre-Removal Instructions Before removing the Memory :

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware always ensure all data is backed up properly

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets

    4. Remove the System Cover.

  2. Establishing image.

Memory

  1. Gently pull apart the release tabs on either end of the memory DIMM.

Memory2

  1. Lift the memory from the DIMM slot and remove from the system.

Memory3

Note: Repeat steps 3 and 4 for any additional memory as needed.
  1. Complete.

Memory4

  1. Pre-Removal Instructions Before removing the Intrusion Switch :

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware always ensure all data is backed up properly

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets

    4. Remove the System Cover.

  2. Establishing image.

Intrusion

  1. Remove the fan shroud for easier access to the switch.

Intrusion2

  1. Disconnect the switch cable from the Motherboard.

Intrusion3

  1. Slide the intrusion switch out of it's slot and remove it from the system.

Intrusion4

  1. Complete.

Intrusion5

  1. Pre-Removal Instructions Before removing the Coin Cell Battery :

    1. During installation or removal of any hardware always ensure all data is backed up properly

    2. Disconnect any telephone, network, or USB cables from the computer

    3. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets

    4. Remove the System Cover and the Hard Drive.

  2. Establishing image.

Coin Cell Battery

  1. Pull the retention clip away from the coin cell battery.

  2. lift the coin cell up and remove from the system.
