Unable to Print When Connected Via USB

  1. If printer is installed Via USB and you are unable to print, please check the LCD Display on the Printer for any error messages.
  2. If printer is installed Via USB and you are unable to print and no other error messages are on the Dell Printer panel:
    • Verify that the printer is selected as the default printer or that the printer is the selected device to be printed to in the application
    • Verify that the computer having the problem is the one that is connected to the printer.
  3. Remove any devices connected between the printer and computer (IE:USB Hub).
  4. Reseat the USB cable connecting the printer and computer by unplugging both ends, and plugging them back in.
  5. Check for a "Found New Hardware" Windows pop up installer.
    NOTE: If printer works on alternative USB port contact the technical support department of your PC manufacturer.
  6. If no "Found New Hardware" pop up is displayed, try using a different USB port on the computer and test.
  7. If no "Found New Hardware" pop up is displayed, when connected to an alternative USB port try using another working USB Cable (if available) and test.
  8. Test by connecting the printer via USB to another computer.
  9. If that fails, uninstall the printer driver completely.
    • Click Start button then Select 'Devices and Printers'.
    • Right click on printer and select remove device.
  10. If you are unable to remove device then double click the printer Icon. This will bring up the print queue- please delete anything in the print queue.
  11. Once print queue deleted please try removing device again.
  12. Once the device is completely removed restart your computer.
  13. Reinstall the printer driver from the disk supplied with your printer by following the on-screen instructions.
    NOTE: If you do not have the disk please go to Dell Support Site, Input your Printer's Service Tag and download the latest driver for your printer.
  14. Download, Extract and Save the driver to your C Drive in a Dell Folder (this will be done automatically when you double click to extract the driver).
  15. On 'Devices and Printers' select 'Add Printer' button.
  16. Then select 'Add Local Printer'
  17. Select 'Use an existing port' and use the drop down menu to select USB001 Virtual Printer Port (there may be several USB ports depending on devices installed on your system. You must select the correct USB port- start with lowest number and install, if this fails try a different USB virtual port number).
  18. Click on 'Have Disk'
  19. Select 'Browse'
  20. Select 'Dell' folder in your C drive (or whichever location you extracted the drivers to)
  21. Select 'driver'
  22. Select 32 or 64 bit driver (listed as Win_x64 for 64 bit and Win_x86 for 32 bit) depending on your Operating System Specifications.
  23. Click on driver file and select open.
  24. Select OK.
  25. Add printer name if you would like to change it and select next.
  26. Select 'Do not share this printer' and click Next.
  27. Select as default printer and click on 'Print Test Page' button.
  28. If the windows test page prints then your issue is resolved.
  29. If the test page does not print then repeat install process selecting the next USB virtual printer port.
  30. If the test page does not print, reset the printer to factory defaults by resetting the NVRAM on the printer. After which please go through the setup once more before returning to step 31.
  31. If you have tried all virtual printer ports and system will still not print then contact Dell Technical Support.
