Overview: Set up the A960 All-In-One Printer for Stand-Alone Faxing

Note:
This document pertains to the ability to utilize stand-alone faxing to send or receive faxes.
Stand-alone faxing allows you to send and receive faxes without the need to have your computer turned on or running.



Stand-Alone Faxing for DSL Users

Note:
DSL delivers digital data to a computer through a telephone line; the Dell A960 All-In-One printer is designed to work with analog data.
If you are faxing over a telephone line connected to a DSL Modem, it is recommended that you install a DSL filter to avoid interference with the analog fax modem signal.

  1. Connect the DSL filter to an active telephone line.

  1. Connect the printer directly to the output of the DSL filter with a telephone (RJ-11) cable.

Note:
Do not install any splitters between the DSL filter and the printer.

Note:
Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and cable modems are not fax modems and are not supported for faxing.



A960 Stand-Alone Faxing for Non-DSL Users

To prevent your A960 All-In-One printer from malfunctioning when sending or receiving stand-alone faxes, verify that the telephone connections to your A960 are connected as indicated below:

Use the Stand-Alone Feature to Send Faxes

Note:
This document pertains to the ability to utilize stand-alone faxing to send or receive faxes.
Stand-alone faxing allows you to send and receive faxes without the need to have your computer turned on or running.

To send faxes using the stand-alone feature on the A960, perform the following steps:

  1. Verify that the printer is on.

  2. Verify that an active telephone line is connected to the wall jack connector on the printer.

  1. Load the document to be faxed onto the scanner glass or into the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

  1. Press the Fax button located on the Operator Panel.

Note:

  1. Use the keypad to perform the following actions:

    • Enter the fax number
      or
    • Press Speed Dial, and then:

      • Press the + or - buttons to scroll through the list to find the number you want
        or
      • Enter a two-digit number (viewable in the upper left of the LCD display).

  2. Press the Black or Color button on the operator panel.

Note:
If you are faxing a document that has only text on it, press the Black button; otherwise, press the Color button on the Operator Panel to send documents that have color text and/or images.

    The printer scans the document and begins the transmission.

Note:
In order to send a color fax, the machine to which you are sending the fax must also support color faxes.



Use the Stand-Alone Feature on the A960 All-In-One to Receive Faxes

Note:
This document pertains to the ability to utilize stand-alone faxing to send or receive faxes.
Stand-alone faxing allows you to send and receive faxes without the need to have your computer turned on or running.

To receive a fax using the stand-alone feature, perform the following steps:

  1. Verify that the printer is On.

  2. Verify that an active telephone line is connected to the wall jack connector on the printer.

Note:

  1. Press the Fax button on the operator panel.

  1. Press the Options button until Answer Fax appears on the LCD display.

  2. Press the + button to scroll through the available options and select After 1 ring, After 2 rings, After 3 rings, or After 5 rings.

  3. Press the Select button.

    When the number of set rings is detected, the printer will automatically receive the fax transmission.
