How to Locate System Service Tag Using Command Prompt

This article has information on locating the service tag (also referred to as the system serial number) using Command Prompt.

Using Command Prompt

For a tablet, on the Windows Tile Screen, swipe from bottom and click All Apps.
  1. Navigate to the Command Prompt Window in your computer (type cmd in the Windows search bar at the bottom-left of the screen, then select Command Prompt from the list of results).
  2. Scroll to the right until you get to Command Prompt.
  3. On the Command Prompt window, type wmic bios get serialnumber.
    For a tablet, use the onscreen keyboard to input the command.
  4. Hit Enter.
  5. Service Tag will be displayed.
