INSPIRON 5570 may present GPU overheating, freezing, performance issues and FAN Noise


Symptom

Inspiron 5570 owners may report performance issues along with overheating, freezing and loud fan noise when running demanding graphics applications.

Note: The solution steps below can also apply to other system types that share the Inspiron 5570's attributes:
  • Windows 10 operating system
  • The system is configured with both integrated and discrete graphics cards

Affected systems

  • Inspiron 5570 Notebook

Solution

Updating the latest BIOS version on the computer will help resolve the issue. To download and install the latest BIOS:

Warning: Dell recommends disconnecting any external devices like external hard disk drives, printers, scanners before updating the BIOS.
Warning: Dell laptops must have the battery installed and charged to at least 10% before you begin the BIOS update. Dell recommends connecting the laptop to AC power before proceeding with the update process.

  1. Update the BIOS and both the integrated and discrete graphics driver to the latest revision:

    1. Browse to the Dell Drivers & downloads page:

    2. Select the Operating System

    3. Under Category, select BIOS

    4. Locate the latest System BIOS

    5. Click Download and save the file to your computer

    6. Open File Explorer and browse to the location where the downloaded file is saved

    7. Double-click the BIOS setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process

    8. Under Category, select Video

    9. Locate the latest Intel UHD Graphics Driver 620

    10. Click Download and save the file to your computer

    11. Open File Explorer and browse to the location where the downloaded file is saved

    12. Double-click the update setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process

    13. Locate the latest AMD Radeon 530

    14. Click Download and save the file to your computer

    15. Open File Explorer and browse to the location where the downloaded file is saved

    16. Double-click the BIOS setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process

  2. Run the Windows update and confirm that there are no pending updates. Once there are no pending updates left, restart the system and confirm if the problems are still seen

  3. If the problem continues, check the operating systems integrity:

    1. Open a command prompt with elevated rights by clicking on the Windows icon at the lower left-hand corner of the screen and typing CMD

    2. Right-click on Command Prompt when it appears and click on run as administrator

    3. In the command prompt window run the following commands (press enter after typing each line):

      sfc /scannow

      and

      dism.exe / Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
    4. If the issue persists a clean operating system reinstallation may be required. (Remember to back up your data before performing the Operating System Reinstall Image (OSRI).)

    5. Make sure the power management options are set to meet your requirements

  4. Confirm that all graphics demanding applications are added to the Windows Graphics performance enhancement list:

    1. Right-click on the Windows icon

    2. Click Settings

    3. Click System

    4. Click Display

    5. Click Graphics Settings

    6. In the selection box select Classic App

    7. Click on the browse button and indicate the path where the program is installed

    8. The program will appear below the browse button

    9. Click on each of the added programs

    10. Click Options

    11. Click High Performance and click OK
