Chromebook 3100 / Chromebook 3400 / Chromebook 3100 2-in-1 Will Not Power On

The following article provides information about a failure to power on without the AC adapter connected to a Chromebook 3100, 3100 2-in-1, or 3400 system:

The Chromebook 3100, 3100 2-in-1 or 3400 System Fails to Power on Without the AC Adapter Being Plugged into the System.

You may encounter a situation where your Chromebook 3100, 3100 2-in-1 or Chromebook 3400 system appears to have no power when opening the LCD lid or when pressing the power button on the system.

After a period of time without the AC Adapter connected to the Chromebook system, it will go into what appears to be Long-Term Storage mode.

The Chromebook system batteries are all designed to enter a power-saving mode (cut-off mode). When the cut-off mode is engaged, this prevents the battery from powering on the system.

Note: If the Chromebook sits for a prolonged amount of time, it may enter a sleep state and will need to be plugged in for 15 minutes.

If you are experiencing no power when opening the LCD lid or when pressing the power button on the system on a daily basis and plugging in AC power corrects the issue we recommend updating your Chrome OS to R79. R79 update should resolve this behavior and is expected to release 12/17/19.
