How to determine free disk space on a drive

Many image files from Dell Hosted Recovery are 8GB and larger, so you will need to have that much disk space available to download the images.

To determine the amount of free disk space on a drive or USB device, perform the following actions:

  1. Right-click the Start button, and select either Open Windows Explorer (Windows 7) or File Explorer (Windows 8.1, Windows 10).
  2. Locate the drive you wish to download files to. Right-click the drive and select Properties.
  3. If the amount of Free Space listed is below 8GB, you may need to free up additional space on the drive using one of the methods below.

Resolve "Not enough space on drive" errors

If you are downloading a large file through a Dell online application (such as Dell Hosted Recovery Image), you may recieve an "Not enough space on drive" error. This is normally due to a space limitation on the drive that files are being saved to. Some images downloaded through Dell Hosted Recovery Image can be up to 8GB in size.

To correct this error, you may need to free up additional disk space on the hard drive.
