Errors displayed in Windows 10 Windows Device Manager after a Intel Cascade Lake processor upgrade on Precision 7820 & 7920 Workstations


Symptom

You may notice Windows 10 Device Manager errors for Other Devices (Unknown Device) or Other Devices (Performance Counters) after you upgrade your Precision 7820/7920 Tower or Precision 7920 Rack systems to a Cascade Lake processor using operating system images that were created prior ro May 28, 2019.



Solution

  1. Browse to the Dell Drivers & downloads page
  2. Enter the Service Tag, Express Service Code or Search for Precision 7820 or 7920
  3. On the left-pane, click Drivers & downloads
  4. Ensure you have selected the correct Operating System
  5. Under Category, select Chipset
  6. Locate the latest Intel Chipset Device Software Driver
  7. Click Download and save the file to your PC
  8. Open File Explorer and browse to the location where the downloaded file is saved
  9. Double-click the Intel Chipset Device Software Driver setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process
  10. Restart the PC
