In this video, we will demonstrate how to replace the M.2 2230 or 2280 solid state drive or SSD on your computer. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Disconnect all the attached peripherals.
To enter service mode, press and hold the B key on the keyboard and then press the power button. Now the computer will boot up and the owner tag information is displayed on the screen. Press any key to proceed. The computer will emit three short beeps and shut down.
To begin, loosen the eight captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest assembly. Next, use a plastic scribe to pry open the base cover, starting from the recesses near the hinges. Continue prying along the other sides to release the base cover and remove it.
Now, locate the SSD on the system board. Remove the two screws that secure the SSD bracket to the system board. Then lift the bracket off the SSD. Remove the screw that secures the SSD in place. Slide and remove it from its slot on the system board. If you are replacing a M.2 2230 with an M.2 2280, then you will need to remove the SSD holder from the system board.
To install the SSD, if you are replacing an M.2 2280 with an M.2 2230, first align and place the SSD holder. Then, align the notch on the SSD with the tab on the M.2 card slot on the system board and slide it in at an angle. Replace the screw to secure the SSD. Align and place the SSD bracket on the SSD. Finally, replace the two screws to secure the bracket onto the system board. Align the base cover with the palm-rest assembly cover with the palm rest assembly and snap the cover into place.
Tighten the eight captive screws to secure the base cover to the palm-rest assembly. Once the computer is fully assembled, Once the computer is fully assembled, connect the power adapter. Press the power button to turn on the computer and exit service mode. Please note the computer will only power on if the power adapter is connected.
