Openmanage quick insight OMEVV cluster aware firmware update designed to simplify and automate deployment of firmware OMEVV delivers consistency and cuts down server administration time. The update engine can patch every server in an entire VM Ware cluster sequentially leveraging DRS to ensure VMs / worked migrated live before each server is patched & and work across up to 15 clusters in parallel
Hi, and welcome to Dell OpenManage quick insight. So what we mean by OpenManage, OpenManage covers all that server management tools or management orchestration and automation of everything. Dell PowerEdge. So let's have a quick look at what we're going to cover today, which is the virtual center integration. So what we mean by that, it means that I take a plug in from OpenManagee enterprise, We call it the OME, VB or Open manage enterprise integration for Virtual Center, and that lets me take all that physical information and pass it into the virtual center and we populate some management options into the menus.
The update I'm going to do is cluster aware so I can select the whole cluster five you know, 16 servers at once and we will individually sequentially patch each individual server. So let's take this a stage at time and see how they how this comes together. Now, obviously, this is using the Dell Patch engine. We can use this to integrate into the WMware lifecycle manager as well. So if we take this a stage at a time, you can see that I select the cluster. I then come into the Dell Wizard and I've already downloaded the catalog. This catalog can be the Dell default catalog with the latest updates. Or I can build my own custom catalog of updates. Once I've selected where I’m bringing the updates from, I can compare what's out in my estate compared to what's available. And Dell also categorizes those updates.
See here we've categorized the number of them as critical and I'll select just my HBAs because I want to roll out update to my couple of HBAs. One has already been applied so that doesn't need to be updated. But the other two HBAs and the other two nodes do need to be updated. I give it a job name so I know when I look at what when I look at the schedule or when I look at the completed jobs, I know what that particular job was doing and I can also ask it to reset the iDRAC, clear out the job site runs quickly and I can also scheduling. So maybe I want to schedule it immediately or maybe I want to schedule it when the cluster member is cluster aware. So we will be only targeting one node at a time. Only when that first node completes and comes back up, we move on to the next node and as I finish the wizard, I can confirm what I'm doing.
I can review exactly the nodes I've selected in the component I’ve selected for updating, and then I'm done. That will now run in the background using the OpenManage orchestration and interfacing into individual iDRACs. I'm running the job from there and then I can go back to the dashboard and see on the dashboard that I've got a job scheduled and even further I can click on that particular job and it will tell me exactly how many nodes are affected by that job. And eventually those nodes will go through and be successful and the job will appear to be successful. So hopefully that's useful. Hopefully you've seen some features and benefits in there that are relevant to you as a VMware or as a Dell customer. Thank you for your time. Thank you for watching.
