In this video we will explore some methods to protect your computer against Malware, such as Spyware, Adware or Viruses that harm your computer's performance or security. Most Dell computers go with antivirus software, such as McAfee, preinstalled. If yours did, make sure that the software is registered and up to date. Furthermore, check that Microsoft security features, such as the Firewall, Windows Updates and Defender, are enabled. If the antivirus software was active, the Windows Firewall would be disabled.
However if you don't have an active subscription, enable the Windows Firewall. Click Start and type "firewall". Open Windows Firewall. Make sure that it is enabled with the recommended settings. Also ensure the Windows updates are turned on. These features provide critical security updates that are important while you are surfing the web. Windows 7 also has Defender built in, which can help protect your system against malicious software.
Click Start and type "defender". Click Windows Defender. Make sure it is enabled. You may now run a scan. If your PC does not have Defender, you can download and install it from the Microsoft support site. Go to support.microsoft.com and search for "windows defender". Select the appropriate result and click the Download button. Save the setup file to a convenient location and run it.
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup. Always make sure that the SmartScreen filter is enabled in Internet Explorer. Open Internet Explorer and go to the Tools menu. Select SmartScreen Filter. The filter is turned on by default. If not, turn it on.
If you feel your computer may be at risk, go to support.microsoft.com. Download and install the Malicious Software Removal Tool. Run a scan. Once the scan is complete, the Malicious Software Removal Tool displays a report detailing the actions performed.
