Welcome to Dell Technologies Data Domain How to Series.
How to create CIFS share to upload .rpm file to System Manager. Reference Dell Knowledge Base Article number 21566. This video was created to: Demonstrate how to upload a .rpm file to System Manager using CIFS protocol, which is also an alternate method when the .rpm file upload fails via GUI method.
This Knowledge Base video is applicable to: All Data Domain systems. All software versions. Microsoft Windows. And Common Internet File System. Let's begin.
Log in to GUI System Manager interface. Click on "Protocols". And then click on "CIFS". Go to the "SHARES" tab. If a share to the /ddvar directory path does not exist, then click "CREATE".
Enter its "Share Name" and enter the directory path as "/ddvar/releases". Click the "+" button and add clients. You can add a few particular client system IPs. Or enter "*" to allow all the clients. And once done, click "OK".
On the Windows system, click on the "Start" button and choose "Run". And then type the DD host name or IP, and the directory of the CIFS share.
Enter Data Domain login credentials, if prompted. And then, you are directed to the "/ddvar/releases" folder. Copy the .rpm file from your local system into the releases folder. Navigate to "Maintenance". System.
The .rpm file should appear now. Reference the following for more information: KB Article number 43071, explaining how to configure a CIFS share using CLI, and how to troubleshoot connectivity to a CIFS share.
