Set and Verify Filesystem Cleaning on Dell Data Domain Systems

Welcome to Dell Enterprise Support. In this video we will walk you through checking the filesystem cleaning status and configuring a cleaning schedule on Dell Data Domain systems. Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and efficient space reclamation.

If cleaning isn’t running as expected, it is often due to a misconfigured schedule, let’s fix that. Before we begin, make sure you have SSH access or a serial console connection to your Data Domain system. You’ll need administrative privileges to run the required commands.

This procedure applies to all DDOS versions. After connecting to the system, run the command [filesys clean status] to see if cleaning is currently running. Using the command [filesys clean show schedule], to check if a cleaning is scheduled. Now set a new cleaning schedule using [filesys clean set schedule] plus the day in shortform and the time in quotation marks [tue “06:00”].

In our example we set the cleaning for Tuesday 6 AM. Please keep in mind that only one cleaning cycle can run on a Data Domain at a time. Check the new cleaning schedule using [filesys clean show schedule]. To start the cleaning manually, run [filesys clean start] then confirm the cleaning is running by using [filesys clean status].
