In this video, we show how to install the hard drive and the drive bay on your computer. Before installing the hard drive and the drive bay, read through and follow the safety guidelines to protect your system from potential damage and ensure your personal safety. For more information about safety guidelines, see the owner's manual of your computer at Dell.com/Support.
Before you begin, create a recovery drive and backup all data. Turn off the computer after the data backup is completed. Disconnect all the attached peripherals. Also ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer.
For optimal performance, Dell recommends only using the cables and accessories included in this kit.
Loosen the two captive screws that secure the left side cover to the chassis. Hold the tab on the left side cover, then slide and remove the cover from the chassis. Pry the front cover tabs from top to bottom to release the front cover. Rotate the front cover outwards and remove it from your computer.
Insert the securing clip into its slot on the chassis, snapping it into place. If you are installing a hard drive, connect the hard drive data and power cables to the system board and route the cables through the securing clip. Perform the following procedure if you are installing a hard drive.
Place the dry bay on a flat surface. Slide a hard drive into the hard drive slot of the drive bay. Flip over the drive bay. Replace the four screws that secure the hard drive to the drive slot. Place and secure one end of the drive bay to the chassis. Then rotate and press down on the drive bay to secure it.
Connect the cables to the hard drive on the drive bay. Align and insert the front cover tabs into the slots on the right side of the chassis. Rotate the front cover clockwise until it snaps into place. Place the left side cover on the chassis and slide the cover forward. Tighten the two captive screws that secure the cover to the chassis. Place your computer in an upright position. For more information or support on your computer, visit Dell.com/Support.
