How to Use OneDrive for Backup and Restore in Windows 11
When migrating from Windows 10 to Windows 11, you can use OneDrive to back up and restore your personal files and apps.
To use OneDrive for your backup, open the PC Health Check app and expand the Backup and Sync section. Sign in with your Microsoft account, and let the app start backing up your files.
Click the Manage button under the OneDrive folder syncing option to arrange specific settings, such as which folders to include in the backup or in your OneDrive folder location.
On your Windows 11 PC, you can restore your OneDrive backup during the out-of-the-box experience or immediately after upgrading. When you first boot into Windows 11, with your settings and OneDrive folders synced, select the device from which to restore your data. You can restore it from your synced Windows 10 system or another device, as long as the backups were created using OneDrive.
Once you select the appropriate choice, click Next, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the restore process.
In Windows 11, you can continue using OneDrive to back up your files. In the bottom right corner of the taskbar, click the OneDrive cloud icon and sign in to the Microsoft account linked to your OneDrive.
Keep or change the folder location, and click Next. Confirm that the selected folders are automatically included in your backup and synced to the cloud. You will also see how much space you have left in OneDrive after the process, depending on your choices.
Click Continue and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the setup. Once OneDrive is ready, click Open My OneDrive Folder to finish the setup.
After you’ve utilized OneDrive, it’s easy to delete files if you want to remove them. Click on the OneDrive icon, open the folder, and you will see all the files stored in OneDrive.
Select the files you want to remove and use the trashcan icon or the delete key on your keyboard. Windows 11 will ask you to confirm the action. It is important to note that deleted files are no longer available anywhere, but you can restore them within 30 days.
When you’re ready, click Got it to finish deleting.
