This video shows how to back up and restore your files with OneDrive during the Windows 10 to Windows 11 upgrade process. Learn how to set up OneDrive syncing, manage your files, and delete or restore files when needed.
Microsoft users can back up their Windows 10 apps and files with OneDrive and restore them in Windows 11. Click on the Windows Start button to search for and open the PC Health Check app. Expand Windows backup and click on "Open Windows Backup."
If needed, sign into your Microsoft account and click "Backup" to prompt the app to start backing up your files. You can restore your OneDrive backup during the out-of-the-box experience or first-time boot after the Windows 11 update. With your settings and OneDrive files synced, select the device from which to restore your data, either from your synced Windows 10 system or another device.
Click "Next" and follow any instructions on screen to complete the process. You can continue to use OneDrive and Windows 11 to back up your files. On the Windows 11 taskbar, click on the OneDrive cloud icon. Sign in to the Microsoft account linked to your OneDrive backup. Keep or change the folder location and click "Next." Confirm the selected folders that are automatically included in your backup.
OneDrive will tell you how much space you have left after the process. Click "Continue" and follow the on-screen prompts to continue the setup. Once OneDrive is ready, click "Open my OneDrive folder" to complete the setup. Your files will be ready for cloud syncing. After you've utilized OneDrive, it's easy to delete files at any time. Click on the OneDrive icon and open the folder.
All files in OneDrive will be shown. Right-click on the files you want to remove and select the trashcan icon to delete them. It's important to note that deleted files will no longer be available anywhere in OneDrive across all devices. However, you can restore them within 30 days.
