Locate Your Server's Service Tag

Looking for your Dell PowerEdge server's Service Tag? This guide shows you exactly where to find this essential identifier on different PowerEdge server models, so you can access support, check warranties, and keep your server running smoothly.

A Service Tag (ST), Express Service Code (EX), mini-Enterprise Service Tag, Enterprise Service Tag (EST), or Product Serial Number Tag (PSNT) is a unique product identifier found on a barcoded label on your server. This label is attached to a pull-tab, commonly referred to as a luggage tag or information tag.

PowerEdge Rack and Tower Servers

Most PowerEdge servers follow a standard layout for Service Tag placement, but there are some variations based on the model and available space.

Physical location

Look for the information or "Luggage" pull-out tab, which contains both your Express Service Code and Service Tag:

  • Front of the server: Most PowerEdge servers have the information tag on the front panel
  • Back of the server: Some models (like the R740XD2) place it on the back due to limited front space
  • Left side of the chassis: You'll also find the Service Tag printed on a label here

Tip: Can't find the tag? Check your server's Installation and Service Manual. Every model has a "System Overview" section with a "Locating the Express Service Code and Service Tag" guide. Find your specific model manual by visiting the Dell PowerEdge support page, selecting your server, clicking Documentation, and searching for the Installation and Service Manual.

Using the web browser (iDRAC)

  1. Open your web browser and navigate to your iDRAC's IP address
  2. Log in with your iDRAC credentials
  3. Go to System > Overview
  4. Your Service Tag displays in the system information section

You can download the manual from the PowerEdge MX7000 support page.

Using command line

Access the chassis management through the serial console or SSH:

  1. Log in to the Chassis Module Serial console or SSH to the OME (OpenManage Enterprise) IP address
  2. Use your default credentials to connect
  3. Run this command: racadm getmodinfo
