This video will demonstrate the how to remove and install system memory on the PowerEdge R520. Replace defective DIMM and/or expand system memory to increase memory capacity. Before you begin: Power system down, unplug power cable, remove cover, remove cooling shroud. Use static discharge mat and bracelet.
Removing Memory Modules
Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the electrical outlet and peripherals.
Open the system.
Remove the cooling shroud.
Locate the appropriate memory-module socket(s).
To release the memory-module blank from the socket, simultaneously press the ejectors on both ends of the memory module socket.
CAUTION: Handle each memory module only on the card edges, making sure not to touch the middle of the memory module or metallic contacts. To avoid damaging the memory module, handle only one memory module at a time.
Installing Memory Modules:
Locate the memory-module sockets.
Align the memory-module's edge connector with the alignment key of the memory-module socket, and insert the memory module in the socket.
Press down on the memory module with your thumbs until the memory module snaps into place.
Replace the cooling shroud.
Close the system.
Reconnect the system to its electrical outlet and turn on the system, including any attached peripherals.
Press <F2> to enter the System Setup, and check the memory settings. The system should have already changed the value to reflect the newly installed memory.
If the value is incorrect, one or more of the memory modules may not be installed properly. Repeat step 4 through step 7 of this procedure, checking to ensure that the memory modules are firmly seated in their sockets.
Run the appropriate diagnostic test. For more information, see Using System Diagnostics.
