This video shows how to replace the M.2 2230 solid-state drive on the Inspiron 16 Plus 7620/Vostro 7620.
Before you begin, turn off the computer, disconnect all the attached peripherals, and remove any SD card installed in the SD card slot on your computer.
To enter Service Mode, press and hold the "B" key on the keyboard, and then press the power button. Now, the computer will boot up and the Owner Tag information is displayed on the screen.
Press any key to proceed, the computer will emit three short beeps and shut down. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer.
To begin, loosen the two captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Then, remove the seven screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Using a plastic scribe, pry the base cover from the bottom left, and then continue to work on the sides to open the base cover. Lift and slide the base cover off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Note: The steps that follow are applicable to M.2 2230 solid-state drives installed in either M.2 slot one or slot two. To remove a M.2 2230 solid-state drive installed in slot 1 or 2, remove the screw that secures the M.2 thermal shield to the M.2 2230 mounting bracket.
Slide and lift the M.2 thermal shield off the M.2 card slot on the system board. Slide and lift the M.2 2230 solid-state drive along with solid-state drive bracket from the M.2 solid-state drive slot.
Turn the M.2 2230 solid-state drive over along with solid-state drive bracket. Remove the screw that secures the M.2 2230 solid-state drive to the solid-state drive bracket.
Lift the solid-state drive off the solid-state drive bracket. Now, let's install the M.2 2230 solid-state drive. To install a M.2 2230 solid-state drive in slot 1 or 2, align the screw hole on the M.2 solid-state drive with the screw hole on the mounting bracket.
Replace the screw that secures the M.2 2230 solid-state drive to the mounting bracket. Turn over the M.2 2230 solid-state drive assembly. Align the notch on the solid-state drive with the tab on the solid-state drive slot.
Slide the solid-state drive into the card slot on the system board. Slide the thermal shield back in place. and replace the screw that secures it to the system board.
Install the base cover by placing and snapping the basecover in place on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Tighten the two captive screws and replace the seven screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly.
Connect the power adapter and press the power button to power on the computer and exit from Service Mode. NOTE: The computer will only turn on if the power adapter is connected.
