In this video, we’ll show you how to replace the solid state drive or SSD from SSD slot four, in your Dell Pro Max 18 Plus MB18250. Before you begin, create a recovery drive and backup all data. Ensure that your computer is turned off and all connected devices are unplugged. Remember to use ESD protection when you are working inside the computer to ensure your personal safety.
For more information on ESD protection refer to the Owner’s Manual of your computer. To enter Service Mode, press and hold the B key and the power button for three seconds, or until the Dell logo appears on the screen. Press any key to proceed and the computer will emit three short beeps and shut down, entering Service Mode. If your computer has a sliding door, slide the door lock to the prelock position. Remove the screw in the door lock compartment and slide the door lock to the unlock position. Push the sliding door down to release it away from the computer. If your computer has a full base cover, loosen the seven captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Using a plastic scribe, pry open the base cover from the recesses at the top edge of the base cover. Lift the base cover off the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. If your computer was unable to enter Service Mode earlier, disconnect the battery cable from the battery cable connector on the system board. Press and hold the power button to drain the flea power. Locate the SSD in slot four.
The SSD installed in slot four might be either a 2280 or a 2230 SSD. Remove the two screws that secure the SSD thermal shield to the inner frame and then remove the shield. Slide and lift the SSD off of SSD slot four. If your computer is installed with a 2230 SSD, remove the screw that secures it to the SSD bracket. Slide and lift the SSD off the bracket. To install a 2230 SSD, place and align it on the mounting bracket. Replace the screw that secures the SSD to the bracket. Slide the SSD into SSD slot four. Align the screw holes on the SSD thermal shield with the screw holes on the inner frame. Then, replace the screws that secure the shield to the frame. Connect the battery cable to the battery cable connector on the system board.
If your computer has a full base cover, align the screw holes on the base cover with the screw holes on the palm-rest and keyboard assembly and snap the base cover. Tighten the seven captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. If your computer has a sliding door, install the sliding door on the computer and push it up towards the computer. Replace the screw in the door lock compartment. Slide the door lock to the lock position. Finally, connect the power adapter and press the power button to power on the computer and exit from Service Mode. Please note, the computer will only power on if the power adapter is connected. For more information about Dell Pro Max 18 Plus MB18250, visit Dell.com/Support.
