Tutorial on Configuring Alert Destination (Linux) for Dell Support Assist

This video demonstrates how to configure the alert (SNMP trap) destination of a device using a script file. Configuring the alert destination of a device enables SupportAssist to receive alerts from that device.

In this video we will demonstrate how to configure the alert destination of a device running a Linux operating system. Before you begin, ensure that Net-SNMP is installed on the device.

To begin, open the SupportAssist installation folder. Then open the scripts folder and copy the LinuxSNMPConfig.sh file and past the file on the remote device. In this example, we have copied the file to the temp folder on the remote device. Now, let’s connect to the remote device.

Type the user name and password of an account that has root privileges and press enter. Navigate to the /temp folder. To run the script file type sh LinuxSNMPConfig.sh –d and the IP address of the host server. Configuration of the alert destination is now complete.

Next we will verify if the alert destination is configured successfully. Navigate to the /etc/snmp folder and type vim snmpd.conf to open the file.
