Good morning good afternoon and good evening.
My name is Dustin. I am a Subject Matter Expert in the Systems Management space. Today I'll be going over offline upgrades of OpenManage Enterprise using a share such as HTTP, HTTPS or NFS. So in our example today I will use HTTP, so from the ''Application Settings' console extensions option we'll see here that I am at version 3.4.0, and 3.4.1 is available online for me to download.
Well some users are not able to reach the online, so they have to do an offline update method, So when that happens we're going to go change to 'Update Settings' and we're going to choose 'Network Share', and this is my network share, HTTP, let's test that. And it's successful we'll hit 'Apply', 'Yes'. and even though I'm connected you'll notice that I have no updates found.
That's because I have not yet staged these updates, so let's go ahead and go to our share and show how we do this. So this is my actual share. The files and the folder, all different types of options here. And let me show you how this works. First we have to go to downloads.dell.com/openmanage_enterprise.
This is where Dell uh, or OME actually gets all of its updates from. You'll obviously have to do this from a system that does have internet, and you'll have to get it over to your share. So what you'll do first is, we have 3.4.1 here, so we actually want to download all the things that we want to do so if i'm on 3.4.0 and i'm going to 3.4.1.
I will need these three files and we will have to have the exact same folder structure as you see here, so the way I like to do it is go ahead and just 'Save target as' on the XML. Go to 'Share', let me expand this so it's easier to be seen, and I'm going to put that right on the root.
I'm going to do the same thing with the signature file, and then 3.4.1. As you see that is a folder, so I'm gonna need to make sure that I have this folder created, and I do. So i'm going to create that folder it's in there, now i can... The easiest way to make sure you have everything is, I like to just put everything exactly where it shows online. So we're going to 'Save target as' here, nope not 'Print', 'Save'.
We're in that folder, that's correct, it looks like this is a directory so we need to create this directory. Now that we've created that directory we can actually download what really updates the system. And while this is downloading I want to show you real quick what these do. So if we look at the XML, this is important, so we see that the update path is 3.4.1 minimal OM Enterprise, this is one of the reasons your structure has to be exactly the same.
We know that 3.4 update path is here and so on and so forth. You have to have a version minimum of 3.2 and you can't be over 3.4.0 to have 3.4.1 so that's it that's really. All this is doing and that's why you have to make sure that everything's perfect. One of the tips I like to do is actually pull up the share and try to get to these files themselves, and make sure that it actually shows you or downloads something.
So now that we have our structure all set up correctly let's go back to OME and see what it says now. We have that same source, we refresh and look, we have a 3.4.1. So that's pretty much it. That's all you really need to know on creating offline shares and downloading. I hope you enjoyed my video on upgrading OME using the offline method thank you and have a great day.
