Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Turn off your computer and disconnect all the attached peripherals To enter service mode, Press and hold the B key. Then, press the power button. The system will boot and display the owner tag screen. Press any key to proceed. The computer will beep three times and shut down.
To remove the base cover, loosen the eight captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly. Using a plastic scribe, pry the base cover from the palm rest assembly, starting at the top edge near the display hinges, and work your way around to release it from all sides.
Now, lift the base cover from the palm rest assembly. If your computer was unable to enter service mode, disconnect the battery cable from the system board and press and hold the power button for five seconds to ground the computer and drain the flee power.
The process in this video is applicable to both M.2 2230 and 2280 SSDs. Remove the two screws that secure the SSD thermal shield to the palm rest assembly, then, lift the shield off. Remove the screw that secures the SSD to the system board, then, slide and remove the SSD from its slot. For the 2230 SSD, lift the SSD screw holder from the system board. The 2280 configuration will not have a separate SSD screw holder.
To install the SSD: For the 2230 SSD, align and place the SSD screw holder on the system board. This step is not applicable if you are replacing a 2280 card. Next, align the notch on the SSD with a tab on the SSD slot, then slide it into the slot until it's seated securely.
Replace the screw that secures the SSDs to the system board. Align and place the SSD thermal shield over on the SSD. Replace the two screws to secure the SSD shielding cover to the SSD and the system board. If the battery cable was disconnected earlier, ensure that you connect it back to the system board. Align the tabs on the base cover with the slots on the palm rest assembly and snap it into place.
Tighten the eight captive screws to secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly. Once the computer is fully assembled, connect the power adapter. Press the power button to turn on the computer. Please note the computer will only turn on if the power adapter is connected. For more information or support about the Dell Pro 16 Plus PB16255, Visit Dell.com/Support.
