In this video we show how to replace the SSD in slot 1 on your computer. Before working inside your computer, read through and follow the safety guidelines to protect your system from potential damage and ensure your personal safety. Before you begin, create a recovery drive and backup all data. When the backup is complete, turn off the computer and disconnect all the attached peripherals. Also, ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer.
Press and hold the <B> key on the keyboard, and then press the power button. The computer will boot up and the Owner Tag information is displayed on the screen.
Press any key to proceed and the computer will emit three short beeps and shut down, entering Service Mode. Remove the four screws, then loosen the four captive screws on the back cover. Using a plastic scribe, pry the base cover off the computer. If your computer does not go into Service Mode, disconnect the battery cable and drain the flea power.
To remove the SSD, remove the screw that secures the SSD thermal shield. Slide and lift the SSD thermal shield off your computer. You may either have a 2280 SSD a 2230 SSD installed in slot 1. Slide and lift the SSD off your computer. If you have a 2230 SSD, remove the screw that secures it to the mounting bracket, then remove the SSD off the bracket to install the SSD in slot 1.
If you have a 2230 SSD, place and align on the mounting bracket. then replace the screw that secures the SSD to the bracket. Align the notch on the SSD with the tab and slide it into the slot. Slide the SSD thermal shield into the slot and replace the screw that secures it in place. Place and align the base cover on the computer and press down on it, snapping it into place.
Tighten the four captive screws and replace the four screws on the back cover. Connect the power adapter and press the power button to power on the computer and exit from Service Mode.
