In this video, we will demonstrate how to replace the fan on your computer. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Disconnect all the attached peripherals.
To enter service mode, press and hold the B key on the keyboard and then press the power button. Now the computer will boot up and the owner tag information is displayed on the screen. Press any key to proceed. The computer will emit three short beeps and shut down.
To begin, loosen the eight captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm-rest assembly. Next, use a plastic scribe to pry open the base cover, starting from the recesses near the hinges. Continue prying along the other sides to release the base cover and remove it.
Then, remove the screw that secures the wireless-card bracket and the wireless card to the system board. Lift the bracket off the wireless card. Disconnect the wireless-antenna cables from the connectors on the card. Then, slide and remove the wireless card from its slot on the system board.
Now locate the fan. Disconnect the fan cable from the connector on the system board. Carefully remove the wireless-antenna cables from the routing guides on the fan. Then, remove the two screws that secure the fan to the palm-rest assembly. Carefully lift the fan off the palm-rest assembly.
To install the fan. Align and place the fan in its slot on the palm-rest assembly. Then, replace the two screws to secure in place. Now, route the wireless-antenna cables through the routing guides on the fan. Connect the fan cable to the connector on the system board. Align the notch on the wireless card to the tab on the wireless-card slot on the system board and slide it in at an angle.
Next, connect the white antenna cables to the main connector marked with a white triangle. Similarly, connect the black antenna cable to the auxiliary connector marked with a black triangle. Align and place the wireless-card bracket on the system board. Then, replace the screw to secure the bracket and the wireless card to the system board. Align the base cover with the palm-rest assembly and snap the cover into place.
Tighten the eight captive screws to secure the base cover to the palm-rest assembly. Once the computer is fully assembled, connect the power adapter. Press the power button to turn on the computer and exit service mode. Please note the computer will only power on if the power adapter is connected.
