In this video, we will demonstrate how to replace the left fan, also called the video fan, on your computer. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Disconnect all the attached peripherals.
To enter service mode, press and hold the B key on the keyboard and then press the power button. Now the computer will boot up and the owner tag information is displayed on the screen. Press any key to proceed. The computer will emit three short beeps and shut down.
To begin, loosen the nine captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly. Next, use a plastic scribe to pry open the base cover, starting from the recesses near the hinges. Continue prying along the other sides to release the base cover and remove it.
Now locate the left fan. Remove the three screws that secure the display-cable bracket to the system board. Lift the display-cable bracket off the system board. Disconnect the display cable and the IR-camera cable, if available, from the connector on the system board. Disconnect the left fan cable from the connector on the system board.
Then, remove the two screws that secure the fan to the palm-rest assembly. Carefully lift the fan off the palm-rest assembly. To install the left fan. Align and place the fan and its slot on the palm-rest assembly. Then, replace the two screws to secure in place. Connect the fan cable to the connector on the system board.
Now, route the display cable and the IR-camera cable, if present for the routing guides on the fan. Then, connect the cables to the connector on the system board. Align and place the display-cable bracket over the display cable and the IR-camera cable, if available, on the system board. Replace the three screw to secure the display-cable bracket to the system board. Align the base cover with the palm-rest assembly and snap the cover into place.
Tighten the nine captive screws to secure the base cover to the palm-rest assembly. Once the computer is fully assembled, connect the power adapter.
