This video demonstrates how to power drain a Dell laptop with a removable battery, or reset the real-time clock on laptops without a removable battery, to resolve power-related issues.
To power drain a Dell laptop with a removable battery, turn off the computer and disconnect any external devices and the charger. Consult your computer’s user manual to learn how to remove the battery properly. Once the battery is removed, press and hold the “Power” button for 15 to 20 seconds.
Reinstall the battery and reconnect the charger. For Dell laptops without a removable battery, we’ll need to reset the real-time clock instead of draining the power. To do this, turn off the computer, but make sure the charger is connected. Press and hold the “Power” button until the LED light blinks three times.
The laptop should reboot into the Dell logo screen, which indicates the reset was completed successfully. If you have any questions about performing a power drain on your Dell laptop, contact us via one of the options on our support website.
