There are two identification tags on your appliance:
The VxRail appliance-serial number: You can find the serial number in VxRail Manager, or printed on the information tag. The product-serial number tag (PSNT) is a 14-digit number that is used to identify your appliance to Dell EMC support.
The Service Tag: You can find the Service Tag printed on the physical appliance. The service tag is a 7-digit service tag number.
Hi, I'm Jennifer and I'm principal engineer from VX Rail Global Support team. In this video, I will show you how to find the product serial number tag of a note. You can refer to this Dell article number. It will contain all the details that we will cover and you might be looking for your whole serial number to open an incident with uh technical support or during a trouble shooting.
So the PSNT the product serial number is a 14 digit number. While the Dell service tag is a seven digit number, I will show you both in a minute and there are different ways to gather this information. Uh We are going to cover today five different ways. OK. So first, uh one of the easiest ways is to get this identifier from the VX rail plug in.
So if we uh log into our B sphere and we go to our cluster level, if we click on configure and we scroll down to the plug in to the x-ray and we click on the host. So we can see all the notes listed. And on the first column, you can see the service tack the seven digit number that we were talking about.
And then the second one, it will be the PSNT, which is a 14 digit number and it is the one that you normally uh use to open the service request. Another way to get the serial number, it could be from the VX rail manager database. So uh I will show you first how to get these uh details on family 4.7 and then on family seven.
So let me quickly open both terminals uh to work on it. I have both terminals open now. So uh we're going to start with the four at seven. So the the commands will differ as I mentioned from one family to the other. So first, we are an easy enough with Mystic user, you don't need uh road access for this.
So I'm just going to the commands. So we're going to read all from note and you can see here uh on the first column we have again the, the Dell service tack and under the PSNT column, we will have the PSNT identifier. So this is for the family for the seven and then uh for the family seven, the command will be slightly different uh as I mentioned.
So we can use and again, uh we can see here again our Dell service tag and our PSNT. OK. Next, uh we will see how to find it from Ira. So I'm just going to open one of the notes Uh And we are going to log in in the system information, you can directly see the Dell service tack. But if you open the virtual console, uh you will find also the PSNT here on the top.
So first PSNT second Dell service tack, now we will cover how to do it from ESX I shell. So if we go back to this sphere um back to the host. Uh First of all, we're going to check that the SSH is enabled. If not, we will uh enable it and we are going to open up a session to the host and from the host, we are just going to read the through uh 17 file.
So if we just run um uh and uh footprint 17, this will read uh the identifier of the note. Again, we have our uh PSNT handle service tack, both included. OK. Lastly, uh if you are on site, uh you can also find this identifier uh from the physical tag. Uh This is where it could be located, but if you need further details, you can refer to the VX rail product guide on the article. This is a summary of what we have covered today.
Uh Thank you for watching and have a nice day.
