In this video, we will demonstrate how to remove and install the memory module. Before removing the memory module, read through the safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and ensure your personal safety.
For more information about safety guidelines see the OptiPlex 7080 Small Form Factor Service Manual at Dell.com/Support. Before you begin, ensure that you turn off your computer and disconnect all attached peripherals.
Note: Remove the security cable from the security-cable slot (if applicable). To remove the side cover slide the release latch to the right until you hear a click.
Slide the cover towards the back of the system. Lift the side cover from the computer. To remove the hard-drive assembly first disconnect the hard-drive data cable and power cable from the connectors on the hard drive.
Now, push the left tab towards the hard drive. To free the assembly from the chassis release the hard-drive assembly from the tabs on the right side and slide the hard-drive assembly out.
Note the orientation of the hard drive so that you can replace it correctly. Gently remove the cables from the routing points on the optical caddy.
To remove the optical caddy move the lock handle from the locking mechanism towards the left to unlock the caddy and detach it from the chassis. Now hold the lock handle and lift the caddy upwards detaching it from the mounting points on the top portion of the chassis.
Carefully disconnect the power and SATA cables from the optical drive and gently lift the assembly away from the computer. Now, let’s remove the memory module. Note: Hold the memory module by the edges to prevent any damage.
Do not touch the components on the memory module. Pull the securing clips from both sides of the memory module until the memory module pops up. Now, remove the memory module from the memory-module slot.
You have successfully removed the memory module. Now, let’s see how to install the memory module. To begin, align the notches on the memory module with the tabs on the memory-module slot.
Slide the memory module firmly into the slot and press the memory module down until it clicks into place. Note: Remove the memory module and reinstall it if you do not hear the click.
To install the optical caddy connect the power and SATA cables to the optical drive. Reroute the cables onto the routing points on the caddy. Hold the caddy upright and align the mounting points with the ones on the chassis.
Push the caddy until the assembly is secured onto the chassis. Move the lock handle from the locking mechanism towards the right to lock the caddy into place.
Route the hard-drive power and SATA cables through the locking mechanism. Place the hard drive onto the caddy aligning the posts on the left side with the slots on the hard drive.
Push the tabs from the right side of the caddy away from the hard drive until the hard drive clicks into place. Carefully connect the power cable and hard-drive cable to their connectors on the hard drive.
To install the side cover, place the side cover onto the system aligning the tabs on the chassis. Slide the side cover towards the front of the system until you hear the release latch click.
You have now successfully installed the memory module. Now, connect all peripherals and turn on your computer. For more information, see the Service Manual at Dell.com/Support.
