In this video, we’ll show you how to remove browser ads in Google Chrome to improve your computer’s performance. Adware is unwanted software that shows ads on your system. This happens when using a web browser such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, and the adware gets installed along with programs or extensions from untrusted websites. For example, when you access a website and receive a request to install a certain extension, or when you download free software and install it in automatic mode.
To identify adware, look for advertisements that pop up randomly on your screen or in the search bar of your browser toolbar, or if you have any unnecessary extensions you don’t remember installing. To remove adware in Google Chrome, click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen. Select “Settings,” and find and click on the “Extensions” option. Here, you’ll see all the extensions currently installed with your browser, which is where most adware can be found.
To uninstall the ones you don’t want, click on the “Remove” button. Check the box if you want to report the extension, and click “Remove” again to confirm the action. Keep in mind, not all extensions are adware or malicious. If you aren’t sure about an extension, you can do a test by toggling the switch to disable it and reopen the browser to see the impact. Afterward, re-enable it, and keep or permanently remove it from your browser.
If the ads are still there after doing these steps, check your installed apps. Click on the Windows “Start” button and go into “Settings,” and select “Apps.” Click on “Installed apps” and review the list of applications. Look for any unknown or undesired apps, as these may be adware.
If you find a suspicious one, click the three dots and click “Uninstall.” Follow any on-screen instructions to complete the process. Go back to the “Apps” section and select “Startup.”
This is where you'll find the applications that are designed to start with the system as soon as you log in to Windows. Toggle off any unknown or undesired apps.
