Prerequisites
Follow the safety guidelines listed in Safety instructions.
Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system:
Turn off the system, including all attached peripherals.
Disconnect the system from the electrical outlet and disconnect the peripherals.
Lay the system on its side.
Remove the system cover.
If applicable, remove the front bezel:
Unlock the bezel by using the bezel key.
Press the release button, and pull the left end of the bezel.
Unhook the right end, and remove the bezel.
Remove all drives from the front bay:
Press the release button to open the drive carrier release handle.
Holding the handle, slide the drive carrier out of the drive slot.
Remove the air shroud:
Hold the air shroud and lift it away from the system.
Remove the cooling fan assembly:
Lift the release levers to unlock the cooling fan assembly.
Holding the release levers, lift the cooling fan assembly out of the system.
Removing drive backplane:
Disconnect all the PERC cables from the adapter PERC cards.
Press and hold the blue release tabs, and lift the backplane up to disengage the slots on the
NOTE: If your backplane has an expander board, the procedure to remove remains the same.
Lift the backplane and place it on the top of the hard drive bay, and then disconnect the power and I2C cables.
If applicable, disconnect all the slimline SAS cables from the system board.
Installing drive backplane:
Connect the cables.
a. If applicable, connect the slimline SAS, I2C, and power cables to the backplane.
b. Connect the I2C and power cables to the system board.
Holding the blue release tabs, align the slots on the backplane with the hooks on the system.
Lower the drive backplane until the blue release tabs snap into place.
If applicable, connect the slimline SAS cable to the system board.
If applicable, connect the PERC cables to the adapter PERC cards.
Install the cooling fan assembly:
Align the guide slots on the cooling fan assembly with the standoffs on the system.
Lower the cooling fan assembly into the system until the cooling fan connectors engage with the connectors on the system board.
Press the release levers to lock the cooling fan assembly in place.
Install the air shroud:
Align the tabs on the air shroud with the slots on the system.
Lower the air shroud into the system until it is firmly seated.
Install the drives:
Press the release button on the front of the drive carrier to open the release handle.
Insert the drive carrier into the drive slot and push the drive until it connects with the backplane.
Close the drive carrier release handle to lock the drive in place.
Install the front bezel:
Align and insert the right end of the bezel onto the system.
Press the release button and fit the left end of the bezel onto the system.
Lock the bezel by using the key.
Follow the procedure listed in After working inside your system:
Install the system cover.
Place the system upright on a flat, stable surface.
Reconnect the peripherals and connect the system to the electrical outlet.
Turn on the attached peripherals and then turn on the system.
