This tutorial provides step-by-step instructions on how to remove and install the right/processor fan on a Dell Pro Max 16 MC16250/Dell Pro Max 16 MC16255. In this video, we will demonstrate how to replace the right fan, also called the processor fan, on your computer. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Disconnect all the attached peripherals.
To enter service mode, press and hold the B key on the keyboard and then press the power button. Now the computer will boot up and the owner tag information is displayed on the screen. Press any key to proceed. The computer will emit three short beeps and shut down.
To begin, loosen the nine captive screws that secure the base cover to the palm rest assembly. Next, use a plastic scribe to pry open the base cover, starting from the recesses near the hinges. Continue prying along the other sides to release the base cover and remove it.
Then, remove the screw that secures the wireless-card bracket and the wireless card to the system board. Lift the bracket off the wireless card. Disconnect the wireless-antenna cables from the connectors on the card. Then, slide and remove the wireless card from its slot on the system board.
Next, remove the WWAN card if one is present on your computer. Remove the two screws that secure the WWAN card shield to the system board. Lift it off the card. Then remove the screw that secures the WWAN-card bracket to the system board. Lift it off the card.
Disconnect the WWAN-antenna cables from the connectors on the card. Slide and remove the card from its slot on the system board. Remove the screw that secures the Darwin-cable bracket to the system board. Lift it off the system board. Disconnect the Darwin-antenna cable from the connector on the system board.
Now locate the fan. Carefully remove the wireless-antenna cables and WWAN-antenna cables, if present from the routing guides on the fan. Disconnect the fan cable from the connector on the system board. Then, remove the two screws that secure the fan to the palm-rest assembly. Carefully lift the fan off the palm-rest assembly.
To install the right fan, align and place the fan in its slot on the palm-rest assembly. Then replace the two screws to secure it in place. Connect the fan cable to the connector on the system board. Now, route the wireless-antenna cables and WWAN-antenna cables, if present, through the routing guides on the fan.
If present, install the WWAN card. Connect the Darwin-antenna cable to the connector on the system board. Align and place the Darwin-cable bracket over the Darwin-antenna cable on the system board. Then replace the screw to secure the bracket to the system board. Align the notch on the WWAN card to the tab on the WWAN-card slot on the system board and slide it in at an angle. Connect the WWAN-antenna cables to the connectors on the WWAN module. For information about the cable connection, see the information on the WWAN-card shield.
Then align and, place the WWAN-card bracket on the card. Replace the screw to secure the bracket and the card to the system board. Align and place the WWAN-card shield on the WWAN card. Replace the two screws to secure the shield to the system board. Then, align the notch on the wireless card to the tab on the wireless-card slot on the system board and slide it in at an angle. Connect the white antenna cable to the main connector marked with the white triangle.
Similarly, connect the black antenna cable to the auxiliary connector marked with a black triangle. Align and place the wireless-card bracket on the system board. Then, replace the screw to secure the bracket and the wireless card to the system board. Align the base cover with the palm-rest assembly and snap the cover into place.
Tighten the nine captive screws to secure the base cover to the palm-rest assembly. Once the computer is fully assembled, connect the power adapter. Press the power button to turn on the computer and exit service mode. Please note the computer will only power on if the power adapter is connected.
