Dell SupportAssist On-board Diagnostics is the latest Enhanced Pre-boot System Assessment (ePSA) tool. With a fresh look, this hardware issue detection tool has quicker tests and more simplified messaging.
To access the ePSA mode, turn off your PC, make sure the AC adapter is connected to the system and that your computer is plugged into a power source. Then turn the system back on and repeatedly tap the F12 key on your keyboard to access the one-time boot menu.
Once the boot menu appears, select Diagnostics, and the On-board Diagnostics Quick Test will start running automatically. Be aware that the mouse won't function during these tests, and if at any time you would like to stop the test, just press the "Esc" key.
Once testing is complete, the results will be displayed. If you're looking to free up your PC's storage space, click the link shown to learn how. After the Quick Test has run, you can execute an extended version of the ePSA test by clicking on Advanced Test.
You have the option to enable Thorough mode, which will perform additional, extensive testing with the "Select all" box ticked; otherwise, you can test individual selected components. After you've made your selections, click the Run Test button to initiate.
Once testing is complete, the results will be displayed. If there are no errors found, you'll get an "All tests passed successfully" message. But if any errors are found, the results will be displayed with next-step recommendations. Most next-step recommendations will instruct you to contact a Dell Tech Support agent to inform them of the error code and the validation code of the test.
You should always make a note of any error codes that appear, along with the validation code data. To look up an error code, use Dell's performance check support page. Click the link shown for direct access. Besides results, the Advanced Test offers two other choices: System Info & Logs.
System Info has tabs with details for current Configuration and Health information for some key components. Logs contains previous test history, which can be helpful to a Dell Tech support agent when assisting. After you're finished with a test, just click on Exit.
