Welcome to Dell EMC Electric Cisco, how to series how to set SNMP user accounts in the switch CLI for DCNM fabric discovery reference Dell EMC knowledge base article number 528104. This video was created to demonstrate the steps to create SNMP user on the switch CLI and also illustrate the procedure involved to discover a fabric on DCNM when to do this.
There is a need to monitor a fabric and the fabric has to be discovered on DCNM before you begin, consider the steps involved in discovering the fabric procedure. Create a special DCNM San Administrative user name in each switch on your fabric with network administrator or network operator roles or create a special DCNM San Administrative user name in your AAA server and set every switch in your fabric to use this AAA server for authentication.
Verify that the roles used by this DCNM San Administrative user name are the same on all switches in the fabric and that this role has access to LV. SANS launch DCNM SAN client using the DCNM SAN administrative user. This step ensures that your fabric discovery includes LV sands, set DCNM SAN server to continuously monitor the fabric repeat step four for each fabric that you want to manage through the DCNM SAN server.
How to create an SNMP user on switch cli double click on paddy icon to launch it connect remotely to switch one via SSH log in to switch one, run the command terminal length zero in exact mode to set the terminal screen length for the current session, run the command configure terminal to enter configuration mode. Create a SNMP user with network admin role run copy, run, start to save the running configuration to the start up configuration, copy complete exit from the configuration mode and run the command. Show us an MP user to verify if the user is listed.
The user that was created is highlighted, verify the switches that are part of the fabric using the command show topology. And then the exact same user has to be created on all the switches belonging to that fabric. This switch is connected to switch two. So same user should be created on switch two connect remotely to switch to via SSH log in to switch two type terminal length zero, run the command configure terminal to enter configuration mode. Create a SNMP user which has to be same as the user created on switch one issue copy, run, start to save the running configuration to the start up configuration.
Once the configurations are successfully copied, exit from configuration mode, run the command show SNMP user which lists all the SNMP users that were created on the switch. Verify if the user which was created in the previous step is being listed. The user that was created is highlighted fabric discovery using DCNM server log in to DCNM server. Click on discover button key in the IP address of the seed switch, enter the credentials of the SNMP user which was created in previous steps. Click on discover button.
It takes some time for the fabric to be discovered. Click OK. Upon getting a pop up message saying the switch is discovered. Fabric is successfully discovered fabric discovery using DCNM web client.
