In this video, you'll learn about using SolVe to generate a customized procedure for installing and deploying VxRail. By using SolVe, you can generate the most up to date and customized procedures for installing, deploying, managing, and upgrading your VxRail environment.
SolVe collects hardware, software, and cluster information to generate customized procedures that are continuously updated. SolVe is available either as an internet-connected online version or a desktop version for installation on Windows desktops not connected to the internet.
For example, a dark site or restricted location. The process for using both online and desktop versions of SolVe is the same. For information about downloading and installing a desktop version, see KB article: 22572 on the support site. To use SolVe, create your Dell account on the Dell Technologies support site.
Whenever you plan to service your VxRail environment, ensure that you generate the up to date and customized procedures from SolVe. To begin a process on the SolVe page, click "All Products", scroll down the page and click "VxRail Appliance". For this demonstration, let's consider generating a procedure for installing the VxRail version of a selected model. Expand "VxRail Procedure" and then expand "Install".
Click "Installation Procedures." In the Installation Procedures wizard, complete the steps to select the configuration settings you are installing. Step One: Select the VxRail Appliance module, select the VxRail Software Image version already installed on the appliance, and then click "Next".
Note: If there are any cautions or warnings pertaining to this model, it is displayed in the upper section. Expand Show More, read through and click "Acknowledge". Based on the other options you select later in this wizard, SolVe may display more than one notification that you must acknowledge. Step two: Select the type of cluster being installed, click "Normal Cluster". Click "Acknowledge". And then click "Next". Step Three: Select the activity you plan to perform. The options shown later in the wizard change based on the activity you select here.
For this demonstration purpose, let's select "Configure VxRail Appliance Only" and then click "Next". Step Four: Specify if a SmartFabric is configured. Click "Yes". Click "Acknowledge" and the click "Next". Step Five: Specify if a cluster already exists on a selected Smart Fabric. Click "Yes" and then click "Next". Step Six: Select the uplink option to connect from SmartFabric to the customer network. Click "Layer 3 Routed - VLAN" and then click "Next". Step Seven: Select the installation environment specifications. And then click "Next".
Step Eight: Where possible, enter information about the VxRail Appliance for which you will use this customized procedure. And then click "Next". Step Nine: The Selections Completed section displays the combination you selected. Read through and click "Generate". To edit any selection, click "Back".
A PDF is generated to provide you a customized procedure for installing your VxRail. And an email is sent to your registered email address that lists the info you selected and a link to the PDF file that you can download. Open the PDF file. Be sure to review any notices and prerequisites before you begin installing VxRail by using this procedure. For more information about VxRail, visit: Dell.com/Support.
