In this guide, you’ll learn how to test and reconnect power cables to diagnose power supply issues. This process includes disconnecting and reconnecting cables one at a time and testing the system with the built-in PSU test button.
Here's how to reconnect and test the remaining power cables one at a time. If you know how to isolate the PSU, skip to the next step. If you do not, keep watching.
Before you begin, please consult your device's user manual to learn how to properly remove the components and follow the safety precautions. Disconnect the power cable and press the power button for 10 seconds. Remove the system cover and identify the power supply in the system.
Disconnect all of the power supply cables from the internal devices. When finished, the power supply should be disconnected from all devices. Reconnect the cables that you disconnected from the PSU to the motherboard one at a time.
Connect the power cord back to the PSU and press the built-in. test button if the system has one. Check if the LED lights up. If the LED does not light up, the power supply may be faulty and you should contact Dell support. If the LED lights up, disconnect the AC power cable and plug in the next motherboard power cable to continue testing.
