In this video, we show how to replace the M.2 2230 solid state drive or SSD on a Latitude 9450 Before you begin, create a recovery drive and backup all data. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Disconnect all the attached peripherals and enter service mode. To enter service mode, press and hold B and then press the power button.
Now the computer will boot up and the owner tag information is displayed. Press any key to proceed. The computer will emit three short beeps and shut down. Before removing the base cover Ensure that there is no nano SIM card installed in your computer. First, loosen the six captive screws, securing the base cover to the palm rest and keyboard assembly.
Then use a plastic scribe to pry the base cover, starting from the recesses at the top edge and lift it off the chassis. To remove the SSD, first, loosen the captive screws, release the SSD shielding cover from the system board Then pry open the shielding cover from the recess on its left or right side and lift it off. Now remove the SSD from the slot. To install the SSD, first, slide it into the slot. Then place the thermal shield on top. Press to set it firmly in place.
Tighten the captive screw that secures the shielding cover on to the system board Now align the base cover and snap it onto the palmrest and keyboard assembly. Then tighten the six captive screws to secure the base cover. Now connect the power adapter. Finally, press the power button to turn on the computer and exit service mode.
