In this video, we show how to replace the fans on a Latitude 9450. Before you begin, create a recovery drive and backup all data. Ensure that you always use ESD protection when working inside the computer. Disconnect all the attached peripherals and enter service mode To enter service mode, Press and hold B and then press the power button.
Now the computer will boot up and the owner tag information is displayed. Press any key to proceed. The computer will emit three short beeps and shut down. Before removing the base cover, Ensure that there is no Nano-SIM card installed in your computer. First, loosen the six captive screws, securing the base cover to the palm rest and keyboard assembly. Then use a plastic scribe to pry the base cover, starting from the recesses at the top edge and lift it off the chassis.
To remove the right fan, peel the mylar sticker off the system board. Then disconnect the cable from the connector on the system board. Remove the two screws, securing it to the palm rest and keyboard assembly, and then lift it off the chassis. Follow the same steps to remove the left fan. Now to install the right fan, align and secure it with two screws. Then connect the cable to the connector on the system board. Lastly, adhere the mylar sticker on the system board. Follow the same steps to install the left fan.
Now align the base cover and snap it on to the palm rest and keyboard assembly. Then tighten the six captive screws to secure the base cover. Now connect the power adapter. Finally, press the power button to turn on the computer and exit service mode. Please note the computer will only power on if the power adapter is connected.
