End of Support Life for VxRail 4.5 and VxRail 4.7

Last year VMware announced the End of General Support for vSphere 6.5 and vSphere 6.7 is October 15, 2022. This will impact VxRail 4.5.x and 4.7.x train releases. The End of Standard Support by Dell Technologies is September 30, 2022. Customers are advised to plan and upgrade any 4.5 and 4.7 VxRail environment to VxRail 7.x new train release (vSphere 7).

Hi, I'm Andrea, technical team leader for the VxRail VCF Cloud Solutions team.

In this video, we're going to talk about end of support life for VxRail 4.5 and 4.7 train releases. Last year, VMware announced the End of General Support for vSphere 6.5 and vSphere 6.7 as per the 15th of October 2022.

So how does this impact VxRail 4.5 and 4.7 train releases? The End of Standard Support provided by Dell Technologies has ended as of September 30th, 2022.

And customers are advised to plan and upgrade any 4.5 and 4.7 VxRail environment to the new train release, VxRail 7.x, aligned to vSphere 7.

There are some exceptions: For customers who have purchased Extended Support for VMware vSphere 6.7 from VMware, Dell Support Services will be honoring the Extended Support through September 30th, 2023.

If a customer purchased Extended Support for VMware vSphere 6.5, they will be instead advised to upgrade to a supported VxRail software version.

For ProSupport Plus customers, the Dell Upgrade team will be able to assist with the upgrade itself. For any other support contract, you will be able to ask for a quotation from our Sales Department.

So, if you Google for the VxRail Technical FAQ, you're going to be able to access the document, which is going to show you a lot of information in general about the VxRail system, and in particular, we can see here the first section is about the end of support life for 4.5 and 4.7. Or, to contact Technical Support for any assistance with the upgrade, you can go on the dell.com/support portal.

On the "Identify your product" section, you just insert your VxRail serial number, one of the nodes of your VxRail cluster, and click on "Search".

This is going to open a page with more details about the VxRail asset itself. And scrolling down, you will be able to contact Technical Support. Clicking here is going to open a pop-up page.

After confirming that this is the correct device belonging to the right cluster that you are trying to upgrade, you can select the type of issue, in this case, "Operating Environment Upgrade", and click on "Next".

This is going to show you the different ways that you can contact Support. The easiest way is to create a Service Request. It's going to open a pop-up on the side where you can confirm your details and press "Continue".

Here, you're going to be able to add the details about the base code that you're currently running, and the required code version that you're trying to upgrade to.

You can specify, as well, a maintenance window, and then on the "Request Summary" and "Description" you can put more details and generic requests.

So upgrade from, in this case, 4.7.542 to VxRail 7.0.400, for example. Down below on the "Request Description", you can also provide more details. For example, about how many nodes you have in the cluster, if this is stretched or not.
