How to Replace the DIMMs for PowerEdge T20

This video will demonstrate the how to remove and install system memory on the PowerEdge T20. Replace defective DIMM and/or expand system memory to increase memory capacity. Before you begin: Power system down, unplug power cable, remove cover, remove cooling shroud. Use static discharge mat and bracelet.

Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions section.
Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system section:
Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the electrical outlet and peripherals.
Lay the system on its side, on a flat and stable surface.
Lift the cover release latch and remove the cover away from the system.

Removing a memory module:
To release the memory module from the socket, simultaneously press the ejectors on both ends of the memory module socket.
CAUTION: Handle each memory module only by the card edges, making sure not to touch the middle of the memory module or gold contacts.
Lift the memory module away from the chassis.

Installing a memory module:
Locate the memory module sockets on the system board.
Push the ejectors on the memory module socket down and out to allow the memory module to be inserted into the socket.
CAUTION: Handle each memory module only by the card edges, making sure not to touch the middle of the memory module or gold contacts.
Align the memory module's edge connector with the alignment key of the memory module socket, and insert the memory module in the socket.
NOTE: The memory module socket has an alignment key that allows you to install the memory module in the socket in only one way.
Press down on the memory module with your thumbs until the socket levers latch into a locked position. When the memory module is properly seated in the socket, the levers on the memory module socket align with the levers on the other sockets that have memory modules installed.
Repeat step 1 through step 3 of this procedure to install the remaining memory modules.

Follow the procedure listed in the After working inside your system section:
Ensure that all internal cables are connected and placed out of the way and that no tools or extra parts are left inside the system.
Align the tabs on the system cover with the corresponding slots on the system chassis.
Lower the system cover onto the chassis until it clicks into place.
Place the system upright on a flat, stable surface.
Reconnect the system to its electrical outlet and turn the system on, including any attached peripherals.

Press F2 to enter the System Setup, and check the memory settings.
The system should have already changed the value to reflect the newly installed memory.

If the value is incorrect, one or more of the memory modules may not be installed properly. Repeat step 1 through step 3 of this procedure, checking to ensure that the memory modules are firmly seated in their sockets.
Run the appropriate diagnostic test.
