In this video, we will demonstrate how to remove and install the hard drive. Before removing the hard drive, read through the safety guidelines to protect your computer from potential damage and ensure your personal safety. For more information about safety guidelines, see the Service Manual at the Dell Support site. Before you begin, ensure that you turn off your computer and all attached peripherals. Remove the base cover.
Disconnect the battery cable from the system board. Turn the computer over and open the display. Press and hold the Power button for five seconds to ground the computer and drain the flea power. After draining the flea power, close the display and turn the computer over.
Remove the battery. We will now proceed to remove the hard drive. Open the latch and disconnect the hard drive cable from the system board. Remove the four screws that secure the hard drive assembly to the palm rest and keyboard assembly. Lift the hard drive assembly off the palm rest and keyboard assembly.
Disconnect the interposer from the hard drive assembly. Remove the four screws to secure the hard drive bracket to the hard drive. Lift the hard drive. You have successfully removed the hard drive. Now let’s see how to install the hard drive. Align the screw holes on the hard drive bracket with the screw holes on the hard drive.
Replace the four screws that secure the hard drive bracket to the hard drive. Connect the interposer to the hard drive assembly. Align the screw holes on the hard drive assembly with the screw holes on the palm rest and keyboard assembly. Replace the four screws to secure the hard drive assembly to the palm rest and keyboard assembly.
Slide the hard drive cable into the connector on the system board and close the latch to secure the cable. The hard drive is installed. Install the battery and base cover back to the computer.
