VMware vRealize Operations (a.k.a. vROPS) is a sophisticated monitoring and analytics solution from VMware. vRealize Operations Manager brings in hardware and virtualization data, compiles it into time-table data of how the environment runs over a long period of time (up to 6 months), and sets normalized baselines of behavior for all the monitored entities. It then is able to help customers highlight anomalous behavior in systems, then drill down to what possible issues could be causing it. It also has prognostics to allow predictions of when the monitored entity is going to cause issues based on the current trend.
VMware allows third party hardware collection through modules it currently calls “management packs.” Bringing in Dell systems management information into vROPS via a management pack would allow for more granular level trouble-shooting for customers trying to find out why particular events or bottlenecks are occurring with Dell systems. The management pack can consists of adapters, dashboard, views, reports, alert definition and symptom definition. The adapter will collect the metrics and store it in the vROPS database. Based on the collected metrics, the various dashboard items, views, reports can be provided in the vROPS Web Console. Based on the symptom definitions and alert definition, the symptoms and alerts can be generated based on the matching rules with collected data metrics of the resources respectively.
