Fixes & Enhancements

Fixes:
Wear Leveling Issue: When the host continues to issue write commands to a particular LBA area and the wear-leveling process is executed in a different area, the drive may encounter the below failure mode. Once a drive falls into this failure mode, it cannot be recovered by power cycle.
Cause: This issue was introduced by applying the wear-leveling-related change in the previous firmware. Data buffer is used for data transfer during Wear-Leveling. Firmware may detect overflow of this data buffer during the refresh process or data transfer process if a read error happens on the block where wear-leveling is in progress. The drive goes into failure mode once the data buffer overflow is detected.
Fix: Fixed the FW to make consecutive Wear-Leveling processes not overlap each other to prevent the occurrence of data buffer overflow. Write Cache Issue: An issue that may cause firmware downloads to fail in the event of a capacitor failure. This failure is triggered by firmware download in the Write Cache Off state, and even if it occurs, it does not lead to drive failure and can be recovered by a reset or Power cycle.
Cause: When FW Update is executed in the Write Cache Off state and then restarted, capacitor discharge control is activated. In this case, unintended PLP occurs because capacitor discharge was controlled in the order of capacitor discharge and then PLP interrupt mask.
Fix: When capacitor discharge control is executed after FW Update in the Write Cache Off state and the system is restarted, the PLP interrupt mask is changed to control in the order of PLP interrupt mask and then capacitor discharge.

This update will not run if any of the following conditions exist
1. Any Virtual Disk that is not optimal.
2. A RAID container that is performing a Background Initialization or Consistency Check.
3. A Rebuild, Resync, or copyback function is taking place.
4. A RAID set that is Partially Degraded or in a Degraded state.

This update will run on drives remaining in a RAID set that is in a Offline state.

There is an architectural constraint with Dell DUP HDD firmware update utility, related to system memory utilization, which is typically encountered on systems with minimal system memory, memory-intensive configurations, multiple RAID controllers, or memory-intensive applications. This issue is typically reported as - The operation was not successful because the device buffer write has failed. And will result in an aborted attempt to update firmware on the identified HDD. Error codes associated with this failure mode include 8009 and 8017. Once an error is detected, the update session is aborted. There is no data integrity or data availability risk associated with this issue. Subsequent attempts to update the HDD firmware may succeed, particularly if system resources are freed up
