Dell Latitude E6420 System BIOS

This package contains the Dell system BIOS update for Dell Latitude E6420 and E6420 ATG systems that run on Windows and DOS operating systems. BIOS is a firmware that is embedded on a small memory chip on the computer's system board. It controls the keyboard, monitor, disk drives and other devices. This update includes the latest CPU microcode that addresses the Intel Security Advisory CVE-2017-5715 and associated Intel Reboot issue.

Installation instructions
Updating the BIOS through Windows
1. Click Download File, to download the file.
2. When the File Download window is displayed, click Save to save the file to your hard drive.
3. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double-click the new file.
Windows System restarts automatically and updates BIOS at the system startup screen.
After BIOS update is completed, system will reboot automatically to take effect.

Updating the BIOS from a DOS environment with Legacy boot mode (Non-Windows users)
1. Copy the downloaded file to a bootable DOS USB drive.
2. Power on the system and then Press F12 key and Select USB Storage Device and Boot to DOS prompt.
3. Run the file by typing copied file name where the executable file is located.
DOS System restarts automatically and updates BIOS at system startup screen.
After BIOS update is completed, system will reboot automatically to take effect.

Updating the BIOS from a DOS environment with UEFI boot mode (Non-Windows users, Load Legacy Option Disabled)
1. Copy the downloaded file to a bootable DOS USB drive.
2. Power on the system and then go to BIOS Setup by pressing F2 key and go to General > Boot Sequence > Boot > Boot List Option.
3. Change UEFI to Legacy of Boot List Option.
4. Go to Exit > Save Changes and reboot system.
5. Press F12 and then Select USB Storage Device and Boot to DOS prompt.
6. Run the file by typing copied file name where the executable file is located.
DOS System restarts automatically and updates BIOS at system startup screen.
After the BIOS update is finished, system will reboot automatically.
7. Go to BIOS Setup by pressing F2 key and go to General > Boot Sequence > Boot > Boot List Option.
8. Change Legacy to UEFI Boot Option.
9. Go to Exit > Save Changes and reboot system.

Note 1: You must provide a bootable DOS USB drive. This executable file does not create the DOS system files.
Note 2: Ensure that you suspend BitLocker encryption before updating BIOS on a BitLocker-enabled system. If BitLocker is not enabled on your system, you can ignore this step.

1. Please note that if the BIOS version installed in your system is A04 or a version prior to that, you must update to BIOS version A05 before updating the BIOS.
