Symptoms
A setup action is comprised of several steps. The software:
- Creates a user mode context references for the management utility (powermig) locally on each cluster node
- Creates a kernel mode context to (a) protect and (b) manage the source and target disk devices locally on each cluster node
- Cegisters the Powerpath Migration Enabler cluster resource type
- Creates a PPME resource type protection resource for the respective cluster disk that is the source of the migration
Symptom A
A PPME "error(88): Cannot check a migration handle" documents the failure to validate of the final result of a setup action. The setup should result in a cluster migration handle, but that handle is unexpectedly absent.
Symptom B
When inspecting the cluster log after receiving the above error 88, the cluster log will show that (a) the resource type is successfully registered, (b) the resource created and brought online, but immediately afterwards, (c) the resource is set offline and removed.
Cause
PPME error 88 occurs, if the nodes in the cluster run different version of Dell Powerpath.
Resolution
Make sure that the versions of Powerpath are identical between cluster nodes.
